The main component of bentonite is montmorillonite, and the content of montmorillonite is usually 85%~90%. The structure of montmorillonite is a 2:1 crystal structure consisting of two silicon-oxygen tetrahedrons sandwiching a layer of aluminum-oxygen octahedrons. Bentonite also contains some other mineral components, such as illite, kaolinite, halloysite, chlorite, zeolite, quartz, feldspar, calcite, etc. In addition, the main chemical components of bentonite include silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide and water.
Bentonite processing usually involves the following steps:
Raw material preparation: First, the bentonite is preliminarily screened to remove impurities and ensure the quality of the raw materials.
Mixing evenly: Then, the bentonite is mixed with water to make it into a paste. This step is to make the water distribution of the bentonite more even, which is convenient for subsequent dehydration treatment.
Screening and dehydration: The paste is further dehydrated through a screening machine to remove excess water. This step helps reduce the moisture content in the bentonite and prepares it for drying.
Drying: Finally, the dehydrated bentonite is dried in a bentonite dryer. The drying temperature should be determined based on the moisture content, particle size and specifications of the bentonite, generally between 80℃-120℃. During the drying process, the temperature must be constantly checked to ensure the best drying effect. The moisture content of the bentonite after drying will be greatly reduced, making it easier to store and transport.
In addition, drying will also have an impact on the properties of bentonite. Drying will make the particles of bentonite come into closer contact, resulting in a significant increase in its wet compressive strength. However, drying will also reduce the specific surface area of bentonite and change its adsorption properties. It will also limit the flow of water and gas in it, affecting permeability, water permeability, breathability and other properties.

Many mineral processing plants face a confusing problem: even with the same processing capacity, some copper concentrate drying lines consume far more fuel and power than others. The energy gap usually reaches 20%–40% in actual operation. The difference i
Utilizing boiler exhaust gas (120°C–180°C) from a power plant as the heat source for a fly ash dryer is a core strategy for reducing costs in fly ash recovery projects. However, three key issues must be addressed in practice:
Freshly washed sand retains too much surface moisture, unsuitable for direct storage, transportation or end-use processing. For sand production plants, professional sand drying equipment is essential to consistently reduce moisture and qualify finished sa
In the slag processing industry, traditional drying equipment often suffers from issues such as low thermal efficiency, rapid heat loss, and poor sealing, resulting in significant energy waste and high drying costs. In reality, the key to overcoming these
